Freedom can wear a price-tag. On Feb 6 an interim India US trade framework was announced, and by Feb 12 the SKM wants the streets to answer. One side hears dumping ground, the other hears duty-free basmati and tea. Both may be hearing their own echo. The counterargument says staples like rice, wheat, corn and dairy are protected, so there is no betrayal. The rebuttal says even a cut in crude soyoil duty, around 16.5% today, can tilt a whole chain of prices and power. My question is simpler, do we have the inner strength to compete and the outer discipline to shield the weak at the same time. If the state withholds the tariff lines and timelines, anger will substitute for knowledge. Publish the full list, build transparent safeguards, and then let protest become debate, not ritual. If we cannot do that, we will repeat the cycle of 2020-21, loud, exhausted, and unchanged.
