Trade talks are not charity. India and the US announced an interim framework on Feb 6, and the street answer is being scheduled for Feb 12. SKM calls it surrender, Congress repeats the same word, and yet nobody publishes the tariff lines they are condemning. The counterargument is that US farms are bigger and subsidised, so any opening will crush our small holdings. My rebuttal is that shielding everything forever is also a subsidy, paid by consumers and by our own stagnation. Keep rice, wheat, corn and dairy protected as the government says, and be ruthless about safeguards on sensitive lines like crude soyoil and apples. Make the product list public, bind it to trigger clauses, and punish any minister who hides concessions in fine print. Do you want a deal that gives basmati, tea, coffee and spices duty-free access, or do you want permanent fear as policy. Protest if you must, but protest with the text in hand, not rumours.
