Label dissent terrorism and watch the room go cold. You do not need to love Palestine Action to see the danger in a state that criminalises support as if it were a bomb. Since 5 July 2025 people have been arrested for placards, and the stigma sticks even if a court later admits the ban was unlawful. On 13 February 2026 the judges called the proscription disproportionate, and suddenly ministers discovered their respect for free speech has footnotes. What sort of society teaches children that speaking a belief can make you a terrorist? Punish criminal damage, yes, punish threats, yes, but do not turn speech into contraband because it makes life easier for ministers. The more you tighten the net, the more anger slips through it, and the smart agitators learn to feed on martyrdom. If the government appeals, it should remember this: fear is a blunt teacher, and it breeds worse students.
