Some child in Oakland is going to feel quietly abandoned tonight, and that matters more to me than any press release about 'market size'. For decades, that ballpark was a place where families learned little rituals of hope together, even when the team was terrible. Now adults have made a choice to chase a richer deal in Las Vegas, and the children are left to make sense of why loyalty did not seem to count. I hope the people running this franchise remember that they are not just moving payroll and logos, they are moving stories and memories. I also hope leaders in both cities work very hard to make new gathering places where kids are welcomed, listened to and safe. If we teach them that everything they love can be sold to a higher bidder, we should not be surprised when they grow up believing relationships are disposable too. We can do better than that, on and off the field.
