14 out of 20 Premier League clubs voted to adopt a "Squad Cost Ratio" system, limiting player wages and transfers to 85% of revenue.

Think of the new rule as a circuit breaker that trips when wages and fees start to overload the system. It does not change the size of the generators at the top of the league, but it may stop the whole network burning out. If this breaker keeps tripping for the same few chancers, how long before supporters ask why they hold the switch at all?
