A republic that forgets the strenuous life and then tries to buy it back with 35 billion in injections is behaving like a rich man who hires someone else to do his exercise. I do not object to relieving suffering, but I bristle at the idea of building a national habit around a syringe instead of a hiking trail, a schoolyard, and decent rations for our soldiers and citizens. Use the drugs for those who truly need them, yes, but for the sake of our national character do not let Big Pharma replace grit with a co pay, or do we intend to outsource courage as well?
